The Spinney Brothers

Inducted in 2010

The Spinney Brothers consisting of four talented musicians whose energetic and distinctive sound intertwines the past with the present. The cornerstone of their music is the sound of traditional, southern-flavoured bluegrass music.

Brothers Allan Spinney (born August 5, 1965) and Rick Spinney (born August 5, 1966) began their musical career in 1991. They have one of the most recognizable duets in all of North America equally shaped by their personal lives and local heritage. During the 1990's they gained a reputation of producing the highest level of traditional bluegrass recordings. Radio and television appearances increased their exposure, as did their hectic touring schedule.

As well as producing the unique vocal renditions, Allan plays the guitar and Rick the banjo. The addition of long time band members Gary Dalrymple on mandolin & fiddle and Terry Mumford on bass & Banjo rounded out this quartet who became the most awarded act in the history of the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards. National and international success followed when The Spinney Brothers performed in every province in Canada as well as entertaining extensively coast to coast in the United States.

Professionalism and the desire to entertain at the highest level are why The Spinney Brothers are synonymous with excellence in Nova Scotia country and bluegrass music. The Nova Scotia Legislature proclaimed The Spinney Brothers as Ambassadors of Nova Scotia.

The Spinney Brothers; Allan, Rick, Gary and Terry, reside in Nova Scotia with their families who have encouraged and supported them throughout their careers.
