Ruth's musical journey began at an early age when she would sing with her sisters, The Best Girls, at local events in the Annapolis Valley where she grew up. By her graduation year she had won two awards for her piano playing and today can be seen playing guitar and piano with her band "The Prospectors".Multi-talented, Ruth is not only a strong vocalist and musician, but has also won countless awards for her song writing. 2019 was a super year for Ruth. In 2019 she was pleased to have two of her compositions, namely, "Unsung Heros" and "Tennessee Calling" make the semi-finals in the Music City Songstar Competition in Nashville out of thousands of entries. As well, Ruth was named Songwriter of the Year by the North American Country Music Association International Competition for her song "Second Wind". This song also won the World Songwriting Award that same year and Ruth was also awarded Female Vocalist of the year at the Josie Awards, the largest awards show in the independent music industry.
Her song "Christmas On My Mind" made her a semi-finalist in the Music City Songstar Competition in Nashville in November, 2019 and in December "Unsung Heros" was named Best Video Production by the World Songwriting Awards Fall Competition and "Hand Me My Boots" was named Best Traditional Country Song. In September, 2021, Ruth was awarded a second World Songwriting Award for her "Angel Wings" video.
Ruth has also won many awards locally for her vocals and musical abilities including a grand prize at a singing contest in Dartmouth in 2005 which awarded her a trip to Nashville and the opportunity to sing at Tootsies Orchid Lounge and The Nashville Palace.
Ruth has six full length CDs to her credit which can be heard on many of the local radio stations throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and including the UK, New Zealand and Nashville.
Along with her busy schedule, Ruth still finds time to perform solo and with her band at many dances, variety shows, benefits and church concerts, as well as organizing concerts herself.
