A native of Oyster Pond, Nova Scotia, George began his musical career at the age of 6 while playing banjo in his father’s dance band. Today, George is known as a producer, professional singer / songwriter and entertainer and continues to write songs and perform live for his many appreciative audiences.
George started bands in high school , later performing with full time acts and his own bands. An original member of Johnny Gold’s Goldtones, he later joined Harry Melvin and Gerald Moses to form The Organization. He is best known for forming George Brothers & Ol’ Blue in 1975 and for 5 years Ol’ Blue was feathured regularly at Little Nashville and The Matador in Halifax and toured Atlantic Canada. 1978/79 were outstanding years for the band with two singles on the national charts and two cross-country tours. He had the privilege to be the opening act or to share the stage with such names as Carroll Baker, Gene Watson, Loretta Lynn, Terry Carrise and Dallas Harms to name only a few.
George was privileged to have toured Canada, the UK and the USA with such bands as Ol’Blue, Country Mile, George Brothers Band and as a single artist.
In 1978 George Brothers & Ol’Blue were nominated for “Best New Country Act” by the CCMA Big Country Awards and by RPM Music Awards. In 1979 George’s band “Country Mile” won CCMA’s award for “Outstanding Performance by a Group or Duo”.
George has recorded several albums with four singles being released from two of them. He also had one album which included a seven piece country swing band.
In 1989 George was awarded “Best Traditional Recording” for his Atlantic Sons and Daughters album by the PEI Traditional and Country Music Awards.
As a producer, George has produced more than 20 country albums for artists in PEI, NS, and the Ottawa Valley.
